Las estaciones, los aeropuertos y los puertos son las nuevas puertas de la ciudad contemporánea. Las estaciones intermodales son imprescindibles como alternativa al transporte privado, y si estas son necesarias en cualquier lugar, aún lo son más en Galicia, dado el tradicional grado de dispersión de la población en el territorio. La nueva estación intermodal de A Coruña debe de ser un icono de la modernidad que genere y aproveche las sinergias derivadas del aumento de la centralidad y de la accesibilidad, así como su nuevo papel de nodo intermodal, para convertirse en polo de actividad urbana. La presente propuesta ha buscado –y creemos que logrado– lo siguiente:

a) Configurar una autentica estación intermodal, donde confluyen con facilidad todos los servicios de trasporte público terrestre (ferrocarril, autobuses urbanos e interurbanos, metro, taxis).

b) Lograr la integración urbana de la estación intermodal en su conjunto.

c) Aprovechar la importancia de la actuación para «hacer ciudad».

d) Armonizar la nueva estación con la antigua marquesina de San Cristóbal, ubicando entre ambas un vestíbulo y dando homogeneidad al conjunto resultante.

e) Ubicar y distribuir las nuevas funciones y sus contenedores arquitectónicos hasta conseguir lograr un conjunto espectacular, gracias al juego espacial de sus volúmenes, al acierto de sus formas.

f) Integrar el lenguaje formal y el lenguaje constructivo mediante la elección de técnicas constructivas y materiales adecuados.

Stations, airports and ports are the new gateways to the contemporary city. Station interchanges are necessary as an alternative to private transport, and if they are needed anywhere it is especially in Galicia, given the traditional dispersion of the population throughout the region.

The new station interchange at La Coruña aims to be an icon of modernity to generate and exploit the synergies arising from heightened centrality and accessibility, as well as its new role as transport hub, a hive of urban activity.

This proposal strived for, and we believe achieved, the following:

a) To design a true station interchange where all public land transport services (rail, and intercity buses, subways, taxis) converge with ease.

b) To ensure the urban integration of the train station as a whole.

c) To use of the importance of the action to help build the city’s identity.

d) To align the new station with the old San Cristobal station, adding a lobby and conferring consistency on the resulting complex.

e) To house and distribute new functions and their architectural features, rendering a spectacular complex thanks to the series of spatial volumes and the intelligent design of their shapes.

f) To integrate the formal and constructive language by choosing appropriate building techniques and materials.
